For example, G mixolydian consists of G A B C D E F G, since G is the fifth note in the C major scale. The scale intervals relative to the root (G) are 1 2 3 4 5 6 b7. Mixolydian has a “dominant” or “bluesy” sound due to the b7. Mixolydian is often used on unaltered dominant seventh chords and in the blues.
