Description
Over the last 38 years I’ve released albums under my own name as well as Carl Verheyen Band albums. In my way of thinking, there’s a big difference. It rises out of the camaraderie and spirit that comes from weeks, even years on the road with good friends. Imagine leaving on a month-long tour, knowing you’re about to have the next 90 meals with each other as you travel the next 9,000 miles together. If you still enjoy each other’s company after all that, you truly have something special. And I believe that this brother and sisterhood, plus the shared joy of hearing the music in the air each night makes it a band.
Promised Future has 7 original songs and 2 covers that we’re road tested before recording over the course of 3 tours. We included a live, 8 minute version of “Take the Long Way Home” dedicated to my dear friends in Supertramp, and included it with a song from one of my heroes, the late Jesse Colin Young.
I brazenly wrote to Jesse as a 17 year old guitarist / fanboy, asking if I could play in his band. Amazingly he wrote me back and I still have that letter! I showed it to him when we met a few months before he passed away and it brought a smile! The song “Light Shine” delivers the relevant lyrics he left us with, and we in the CVB all felt it was the perfect way to end Promised Future. Hope you enjoy the music!
